Solarium

Skin plays a vital role in keeping us
healthy. It is the largest organ in our body, and it
protects us from potential problems caused by such factors
as dehydration, the sun, bacterial infections, and
pollution.

Protect yourself from the harmful Aussie sun by building up your natural colour barrier in our solariums.
-
Helps relieve depression,
-
stimulates vitamin D,
-
helps relieve skin conditions,
-
Builds the bodies natural protects against the harmful rays of the sun
Despite years of public
health campaigns warning
about the dangers of sun
exposure, half of all
Australians still believe a
tan is healthy. And when
we’re not sunning ourselves
at the beach, it seems that
a solarium is a popular
alternative for catching
some rays.
We acknowledge and support
voluntary standards
The voluntary
Australian/New Zealand
standard ‘Solaria for
cosmetic purposes’ (AS/NZS
2635:2002) acknowledges the
continuing popularity of
indoor tanning, and sets out
requirements for
operators to minimise
your risk
as much as possible for customers.

Our customers simply feel great
after a visit to the solarium. In fact, many can't wait to
return for another warmly soothing, yet invigorating
treatment.
Such is the soothing sensation, it's common practice to run
directly from the gymnasium.

Words can hardly express the
feeling of pure indulgence. Your visit is the perfect way to
de-stress after work. Be prepared to feel "on top of
the world", with a smile to match, at the end of it.

Each of the Seasons delivers
particular tanning benefits. Here's how you could maximise
your experience.
:: Autumn ::
At the end of summer, many people are thinking about heading
north.
:: Winter ::
If you're feeling cold and need to warm up for an
emotional boost, a tan
is the answer. For those going into the sun, this is the
perfect way to avoid burning in the sun by being prepared.
:: Spring ::
Now that winter is over, we can provide a managed
programme to end the hibernation, ready for summer.
:: Summer ::
Many people like to develop a tan prior to exposing
themselves to the sun.

We want to make sure your
experience is as worry free and comfortable as possible.
What a lot of people don't realize until they experience it
first hand is that indoor tanning is a very relaxing
experience. One of the reasons people use a solarium is for
the stress relief a relaxing tanning experience brings.
When you first come in for your
appointment, we will ask you to fill out a consent form.
This information will consist of your general information,
as well as information regarding your skin type. This will
assist our staff in choosing the optimum tanning time and
schedule for you. Please be sure to answer accurately to
avoid the risk of burning.
Our staff is professionally trained
Beauty Therapists so if you have any questions at all about
your skin, how your skin tans or any questions about the
room or tanning equipment please ask. Our staff is there to
ensure your experience is a positive one.
We will then make sure you are equipped
with the following:
Protective Eyewear -
your eyes have almost no protection against UV rays.
Therefore, protective eyewear is mandatory. We provide
eyewear free of charge, although we do recommend purchasing
your own pair.
Indoor Tanning Lotion -
your skin will tan better when your skin is clean and
moisturised and tanning lotion is specially formulated to
produce a better result than tanning without it. These can
be purchased once you arrive in sample or regular sizes.
Towel - we provide a
towel for your convenience and to cover up areas not
normally exposed to UV light.
Once you are comfortable with all of the
information we will explain how to use the tanning bed. Once
you have applied your lotion, you may start the bed at
anytime by simply turning the switch to on. All of our bed
timers are controlled by electronic timers, so you never
have to worry about the time remaining as your bed will shut
off automatically.
Solarium Tanning is a private affair and
tanners can have nude or wear under garments, depending on
your individual preference. We can supply sun blockers for
protection against UV exposure.
Before leaving the store, you will have
an opportunity to store your lotion behind our front desk so
that it is always waiting for you when you come in.
If you have any other questions about
your session, please ask one of our friendly staff members

Government and industry
working together
NSW Health has a Solarium
Stakeholder Working Group -
with representatives from
NSW Health, the Australasian
Solarium Association, the
Cancer Institute, NSW Cancer
Council, the Centre for
Research and Psycho-oncology
(CheRP), Department of Local
Government, Local Government
and Shires Association,
Australia Solarium
Association, Department of
Environment and Climate
Change, Fitness NSW,
Advanced Association of
Beauty Therapists and the
Professional Hairdressers
Association. This group is
working to facilitate
industry compliance with
Standards Australia
guidelines.
Discussions with this
group have enabled the NSW
Department of Health to
bring compliance issues and
skin cancers risks to the
attention of the solaria
industry.
Since July 2003, the
Working Group has developed
and distributed a combined
industry package for
solarium operators including
Guidelines for Solarium
Operators, a client consent
form and a warning sign. Key
guidelines conveyed in these
materials include:
-
Young people under
15 years of age should
not be permitted to use
solariums.
-
Young people over 15
years but under 18 years
must provide written
parental consent, prior
to using a solarium.
-
Warning signs should
be displayed about the
dangers of exposure to
ultraviolet radiation (UVA
and UVB).
-
Client consent forms
must be provided and
completed by all
solarium users prior to
use.
-
Each user should
only have single
sessions - no double
sessions.
-
Repeat exposure
within 48 hours will not
be allowed.
-
A trained operator
must supervise the use
of any solarium.
-
Clients with a
particular skin-type
(very white in colour,
with lots of freckles)
will not be allowed to
use sun beds.
As solarium
operators we aware of
our obligations
under the standard, which
aims to minimise
your risk. Check
that:
-
Health
warning signs
informing you about the
risks of using a
solarium are clearly
displayed.
-
The solarium
operator analyses your
skin type
— if you’re skin type 1, you
are not to use the solarium.
-
You’re asked to sign
and date a client
consent form.
-
Goggles
are provided or
available for purchase,
and the operator ensures
that you wear them.
-
The solarium looks
clean and
hygienic.
-
You’ll be
supervised
while using the

medications,
including some

contraceptive pills and
drugs for treating
certain conditions such
as diabetes, epilepsy, a
heart condition or
asthma, can make you
UV-sensitive,
so if you’re taking any
medication get advice
from your doctor first.
-
Before using the
solarium, ask how to
stop
the tanning session.

Remove
any cosmetics,
deodorants or perfumes
as they may enhance your

exposure.
